We are building an innovative analytics platform for a Big Four consultancy firm, used globally to support a multi-billion-dollar service line. This platform empowers teams to ingest, transform, and analyse large financial datasets during business mergers, acquisitions, disposals, restructurings, and recovery. This high-profile project has funding secured and an ambitious roadmap. We partner with industry leaders like Microsoft and Databricks, leveraging their advanced technologies in the data and analytics space.

About the Role

As a Technical Business Analyst, you will play a vital role in bridging the gap between business needs and technical solutions. You will be responsible for understanding the requirements of the consultancy teams, translating them into detailed technical specifications, and collaborating closely with our development teams to deliver effective data-driven solutions within the platform.

This fully remote role allows you to work from home within New Zealand/Australian time zones.

Key Responsibilities

  • Elicit, analyse, and meticulously document business requirements related to the analytics platform and its diverse use cases.
  • Translate business requirements into comprehensive functional and technical specifications for data ingestion, transformation, analysis, and reporting solutions.
  • Develop and maintain essential documentation, including data dictionaries, data flow diagrams, and other relevant materials.
  • Collaborate effectively with data engineers, developers, and other technical stakeholders to ensure solutions meet the demanding needs of the consultancy teams.
  • Conduct thorough data analysis and validation to guarantee data quality and accuracy within the platform.
  • Support user acceptance testing (UAT) and provide comprehensive training to end-users.
  • Proactively identify and document process improvements related to the platform’s functionality and performance.
  • Maintain clear and consistent communication with stakeholders, including the consultancy firm, regarding project progress, potential challenges, and key updates.

Essential Skills & Experience

  • Proven experience as a Technical Business Analyst, specifically within a data and analytics environment.
  • Strong understanding of data warehousing concepts, ETL processes, and BI tools (e.g., Power BI, SQL Server, Snowflake, Azure Synapse, Databricks).
  • Proficiency in SQL and data analysis techniques.
  • Experience with data modelling and dimensional design.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and stakeholder management skills, including the ability to effectively interact with senior stakeholders.
  • Ability to translate complex technical concepts into clear, concise language for non-technical audiences.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Essential: Experience working in an Agile environment.
  • Highly Desirable: Experience working with large financial datasets.
  • Desirable: Experience with Microsoft Azure and Databricks.
  • Essential: A strong desire to learn and work with AI technologies. Prior experience with AI/ML concepts or tools is a plus but not required.
  • Must be willing to undergo a pre-employment background check as dealing with financial data.
